5 Easy Website Updates to Make Today

As a photographer, your website is your greatest marketing tool. You can send out newsletters all day, but if the website isn’t strong and clearly organized, it won’t convert visitors in clients. There are so many ways to give your website the strongest presentation possible, but here are a few steps you can take today:

  1. Use Industry Language: When designing your website, it's important to understand that potential clients will want to see common industry terms that show you know how to speak their language. Ensure that your keywords and navigation align with these terms. For example, instead of using a generic category like "People," opt for more specific terms like "Portraits" or “Lifestyle”. This way, your website will be easily discoverable by search engines and attract relevant traffic.

  2. Build Client Trust: One of the most effective ways to build trust with potential clients is by telling them who you’ve worked with (this builds something called “social proof”) and creating a consistent look and feel throughout your website. Include a dedicated section to showcase client projects, and be sure to add a client list to your About page. This not only adds credibility but also helps potential clients visualize how their own projects could look when working with you.

  3. Make Your "About" Page Effective: Your "About" page is typically the only place on the site where you can connect with your audience on a personal level. Include a bio picture that reflects you and your brand values, and make sure you clearly state your location and regions where you’re available to work as a local. Keep your bio brief but engaging (please don’t tell us when you got your first camera!), provide contact information such as an email address (not just a contact form), and a newsletter signup form. This allows potential clients to easily get in touch and stay connected.

  4. Don't Dismiss SEO: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a crucial aspect of improving your website's visibility in search engine results. Optimize your website by renaming image files with relevant keywords, incorporating keywords into your bio, meta titles, descriptions, page titles, and descriptions. Set up Google Search Console to index your website and set up a Google My Business account to enhance your local search presence.

  5. Focus on User Experience: Make is easy for visitors to find what they’re looking for - ensure that your site is easy to navigate with clear and intuitive menus. Prioritize the load time of your pages by optimizing image sizes and minimizing unnecessary scripts. Consider seeking feedback from others by asking them to review and provide input on their browsing experience. This can help you identify areas for improvement and ensure a user-friendly website.
